LMA Plus
LMA Plus is the Group’s specialist solutions design company. Central to its function is the design of innovative labour market activation solutions that empower a multi-stakeholder environment. LMA Plus works towards creating youth employment opportunities, by providing the requisite skills to being employable and obtaining workplace experience.
To reach success and activate the labour market, LMA Plus partners with government, businesses across South Africa, learning institutions and civil society.
Government
The Human Science Research Council was initially tasked by former President Thabo Mbeki to lead various workshops between government, business, labour and civil society institutions to develop potential solutions for the growing unemployment rate among South African youth. Multiple interactions with the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac), among others, have since led to various youth employment initiatives. The initiatives serve as catalysts that enable the implementation of labour market activation programmes.
Businesses in South Africa are faced with multiple challenges that are exacerbated by deteriorating international and local economic obstacles, global epidemics, changing workforce management paradigms, and local redress challenges such as Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE). Creating employment opportunities for unemployed youth in this environment is seen as a challenging goal to achieve. However, government intervention and incentives, coupled with our innovative solutions, allow LMA to unlock and add substantial value to these businesses.
Learning Institutions
Through our innovative solutions we enable the sustainability of the 14 public and private learning institutions, by unlocking substantial value through high-volume, low-margin financial models. We accelerate and develop our finance ecosystem, by partnering with businesses and civil society.
Our solutions require the involvement of civil society organisations such as churches and other faith-based organisations, online groups and social media communities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profits, and local houses of traditional leaders. This is especially the case in township and rural communities.
